Pink Mammoth (PM) was created by people who feel and believe in synergy. It is a collective that nurtures, encourages, and supports its participants in being completely themselves, in learning to express their true nature, and to practice their gifts freely and without condition.

PM understands and appreciates that people are more able to realize their fullest potential when they have the unconditional support and love of their community. And in turn, our participants provide unconditional love and support for the PM community, placing the fulfillment of those around them as high or even higher than their own. We borrow this concept from the path of the Bodhisattva, a Buddhist name for one who defers his or her own enlightenment for the sake of helping others attain their own. We believe that if we all practice this form of selflessness, then we all gain, and to a far greater degree than we ever could alone.

PM is also founded upon the principle of giving without expectation. We have discovered that when we give of ourselves freely and without expecting any kind of return, the sense of fulfillment within us is greater. And when an entire community practices this form of giving and sharing, then once again, everyone within that community bears greater rewards. Each of us in the PM community shares whatever we have with the primary purpose of helping our fellow, whether it be a form of art, a possession, or simply a favor. And when the fruits of our labors are rewarded by others – whether it be in monetary form or otherwise – these rewards are received with unencumbered gratitude, rather than with an expectation fulfilled.

In this era of commerce and impersonal exchange, we strive to transcend the traditional practice of offering one’s labors simply in exchange for money. PM participants demonstrate that when we work for ourselves, for our own spiritual fulfillment and for the sake of enlightening our fellow, there is no greater sense of satisfaction. It is a spiritual reward, a feeling that each of us has felt inside when we see that our gifts have benefited others, and have done so simply by being an extension of who we most naturally are. Traditional tenets of commerce have negated and ignored the immense value of spiritual fulfillment in our work, and PM strives to reintroduce this element into the lives of our participants, while still engaging in activities that bear financial support for them and their pursuits.

PM is a family. We strive to nurture a sense of closeness among us, a bond between us, and to create an environment of love and compassion, selflessness and support, health and vitality, that encourages each of us to be our best, to shine and to thrive. Like preparing communal meals and participating in recreative pursuits together, we constantly engage in activities that strengthen the bonds between us and encourage a healthy lifestyle. We recognize that we can only be our best when we are healthy, in spirit, mind, and body, and we constantly strive to help each other attain this state of holistic wellness.

The first questions we ask of new prospective participants are, What do you most love to do, What would you do if you could do anything, and How can we help you attain and practice your vision and passion? Our aim is to provide every resource our participants need to practice what they most love to do, both in terms of equipment, space and audience, as well as community, guidance and unconditional support. Our participants include painters, sculptors, and muralists, DJs, music producers, and filmmakers, interior designers, clothing designers, and architects, flower arrangers, writers, and photographers, web designers, computer programmers, and sound engineers. PM provides all these participants and more with any resource they need to perform or practice their chosen discipline: fully equipped, state-of-the-art music-production studios and artist’s studios, an office and conference area, film-quality digital video equipment, computer networks and equipment, visual arts supplies, sound systems, sewing machines and more. All of these resources, as well as our living quarters, are housed in a uniquely spacious 6,000 square foot complex in the Mission District, in the heart of San Francisco’s thriving art community.

Current Activities

Our participants come from a range of backgrounds and each represent a wealth of connections that allow for a very active link between PM and the beating pulse of SF’s culture and energy. In the past, our efforts in building exposure for the collective have been greatly accommodated by people who believe in us and our mission. PM events have been held in a variety of venues around San Francisco, each with the flavor and space that complement the event itself. These venues have ranged from the newest and biggest nightclub spaces like Mighty and Ruby Skye; to established bastions of city culture like 1015 Folsom, EndUp, and The Independent; to intimate and comfortable bar/restaurants like Soluna Cafe & Lounge; and to friendly and favored neighborhood gathering spots like The Monkey Club. At each of these venues, we strive to introduce and practice the multi-faceted yet symbiotic nature of Pink Mammoth, by bringing together all the elements that our participants offer – sculptures, paintings, live-event work, experimental designs, live percussion and vocals that accompany our resident DJs, as well as providing our own hosts and greeters.

Pink Mammoth also builds and hosts a camp at Burning Man, the 60,000 person music and arts festival held annually in the Nevada desert. Much of PM’s roots lie in the radically uninhibited nature of the Burning Man festival, and we maintain strong ties with the Burning Man community as a whole. PM also participated in Love Parade SF, the first American iteration of the massive Berlin-based music festival, by building a float for the parade and co-hosting the Opel/Spundae After-Party and Kelly’s Mission Rock.

Our primary artist’s studio is extremely well-equipped and comprehensive, housing a range of top-of-the-line hard and soft production gear. The studio acts as meeting ground for tremendous creative talent, encouraging close collaboration with musicians and producers, and serves as yet another extension of our core desire to facilitate and nurture creative connection.

Every penny of income that PM receives through activities goes directly to supporting our infrastructure, to acquiring and maintaining the equipment our participants need, and to constantly generating awareness and recognition of our mission. Both our executive director and managing director have strong backgrounds in finance and business, and are extremely focused on ensuring the long-term viability of Pink Mammoth and its constituents. Although PM was initially financially supported by its founders, the success of our events have allowed us to become a self-sustaining enterprise.

Future Activities

Our primary near-term goal is to establish PM as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. All of us at the core of PM are deeply committed to our cause and mission, and nonprofit status will allow for our efforts to be maximized. We have a legal adviser and nonprofit manager to help us with this direction, and we are in the process of assembling a board of directors who share our vision and commitment.

Once PM attains nonprofit status, many of our core projects will be allowed to flourish. One of the most important elements of our vision is to create and cultivate an open connection with artistic and creative communities around the world, to develop free avenues of exchange between each of these communities, and to actively manifest the drive to share our energy that many of us feel within. PM will sponsor artists of every kind from around the world to come to San Francisco and delve deep into their chosen art with the immense wealth of resource that PM offers its participants. They will be provided with fully-equipped living and working quarters, with all the connections PM participants maintain with our local community, and with an audience that draws from the very best of the SF populace. After completing their artist’s residency here, they will be provided with whatever resource they need to harness and nurture the energy of their home community so that their experience here can be continued and extended in other parts of the world.

At the same time, PM will also sponsor our own participants, as well as selected students from our local community, to travel abroad and study any trade they wish, with the proviso that once their studies are completed, they return here to our local community and apply their newfound knowledge for the benefit of those at home. In this way, a beautifully fluid and natural exchange of energy, creativity, and vision begins to emerge, bringing communities around the world ever closer together, bleeding the inherent qualities of each community into each other, and bringing to fruition the vision of a true global collective.

We also have an eye toward becoming a center of learning, allowing our participants to share their knowledge with those that can most benefit from their instruction. With such an immensely deep and varied pool of gifts that our participants harbor and bring to the PM collective, it is our duty to provide them with the ability and space to share their knowledge in a supportive and educational environment. We hope to set up a regular and active calendar of classes that will be recognized as a bastion of rewarding and relevant learning. This will also provide an invaluable element in incorporating our visiting international artists into the educational experience, who can inject their unique views and perspectives with even deeper benefits for our participants.

Music is an integral part of the PM world, and out of the studios we hope to start a record label to print and distribute the works of our music producers. The demand for quality electronic music is soaring, and we feel that it is vital that our voices be heard, with the rhythm of heart and depth of spirit that all of us at PM feel. Our resident DJs and producers have an avid and sharp ear for new sound, and the label will serve as a means to satisfy the musical urge that many within our community feel and follow.

As the awareness of our collective increases and more gifted artists become participants, a necessary step will be to locate and acquire more spaces in which to house them and their art. Through our contacts in real estate, we stay apprised of current SF market conditions, and all of us keep a watchful eye for potential new spaces.

Conclusion

The survival and growth of PM depends upon its participants, in helping them to strip away the obstacles that block their path, and to provide them with the love and support of community as they find themselves and find ways of applying their innate gifts for benefit of all. All of us feel that every experience, every choice, every direction and change of direction has led us to this, preparing us and training us for creating the greatest and most rewarding effort of our lives. We believe in it with more commitment and faith than anything that has come before. PM is the ultimate manifestation of our collective vision we each feel a deep urge within, to see each other happy, to spread light into the world, to use our inherent gifts to help and enlighten each other. We are making our own world, the way we see it and wish to build it, and with every new person we welcome, the energy grows.

Be a part of our world, and let us help you create yours.
