New Mariah Carey Music Video | Triumphant (Prod. by JD & BCox)
Posted on: Aug 22, 2012
It's been three years since Mariah Carey released her last album, so it's quite a big deal when she drops new music. Her newest single "Triumphant" features Rick Ross and Meek Mill and is meant to serve as inspiration to her fans, as well as herself.
Speaking to MTV news, MC's longtime collaborator Bryan-Michael Cox talks about the single and what to expect from the highly anticipated album. “I expect that this record’s going to be a huge record. I expect that this is going to be one of her bigger albums” Cox Says. He explains that the two have been working on the album since before she gave birth to her twins with husband and SKAM Artist, Nick Cannon. “She was committed to making it before she got pregnant. Then she got pregnant and she took the time off,” he says. “Then after she came back, we started really vibing again and we picked up right where we left off. I just feel like between Jermaine [Dupri], myself and her, we came up with a few things that [are] really, really a solid body of work.”
Speaking on the single, the Diva had nothing but praise for her guest stars. "Working with Ross and Meek on the same record was incredible," Carey says. "Obviously, Ross is a star and everybody loves him. I'm a fan of his music. I really, really wanted to work with him. ... I always like to do collaborations that people might think are different."
Her husband and SKAM Artist Nick Cannon directed the video which follows the story of a young fighter (Meek Mill) as he enters the ring with his promoter (Rick Ross, wearing chinchilla) and his ring girl (Carey) by his side. As the two sit front row cheering him on, along with DJ Khaled (who, unlike Meek and Ross, isn't actually featured on the track), Meek attempts to take down his competition one right hook at a time.
As the video closes out, Meek is, well, triumphant over his competition, knocking out his opponent, much to the delight of his pals. In the end, the video is really all about Carey, who stands alone in the ring in her barely there skin-tight get-up, singing about overcoming adversity, while glitter falls from the ceiling.
The single is available on itunes and is making it's way up the charts. Her 14th studio album has no release date as of yet.
