Need to sell some stuff? Seems like the go-to marketing tool of the day is to go set some obscure record and get recognized by Guinness. That’s what Samsung did with their #DITCHtheDSLR event yesterday in Los Angeles to promote their NX30 and NX Mini compact interchangeable-lens cameras.

.... Nick Cannon was on hand to oversee the record for most consecutive selfies taken at the Hollywood and Highland promenade yesterday, an achievement that was officially dubbed the Selfie Relay Chain record. How did all of those selfies get taken? Those weren’t your everyday selfies, those were brand selfies! Participants traded in their DSLRs for one of Samsung’s new high-powered, tiny cameras, then got to work taking pictures of themselves. The mission was accomplished, and everyone scored some new cameras. Julianne Hough even came by with a $50,000 donation to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles. Everyone came out a winner, except for the DSLRs, I guess.
